Review: Bistro Zaytoun in Mar Mikhael

Lara Shamma ·

Fresh pasta, warm service and twelve tables that fill up fast.

A plate of spaghetti on a wooden table in a cosy bistro

Bistro Zaytoun sits on a quiet stair street in Mar Mikhael, and from the outside you could walk straight past it. Inside there are twelve tables, a short handwritten menu and a kitchen you can see from every seat.

The pasta is made each morning. I ordered the spaghetti with slow-cooked beef and tomato, which came glossy and generous, and a plate of linguine with prawns, lemon and garlic that I would happily go back for tomorrow.

Service is warm and quick without being rushed. The staff know the menu well and will steer you towards whatever came in fresh that day.

Prices are fair for the neighbourhood, and the fresh lemonade with mint is the best I have had this year. Book ahead for Friday and Saturday evenings, or come early at lunch.

My verdict: a small place that does a few things very well. 4.5 out of 5.
