Review: Julliano’s, wood-fired pizza in Batroun

Lara Shamma ·

Blistered crusts, a garden patio and a spicy sujuk pizza I keep thinking about.

Julliano’s is where I go when I want a relaxed evening by the sea and very good pizza. It is a short walk from Batroun’s old harbour, with a garden patio strung with lights.

The wood-fired oven turns out blistered, chewy crusts with simple, excellent toppings. My favourite is the spicy sujuk with a drizzle of honey and fresh thyme; the za’atar and labneh pizza is a close second.

The patio is lovely on warm nights, kids are welcome and there is a good list of fresh juices and homemade iced teas.

Prices are fair, and portions are big enough to share. Leave room for the knafeh pizza, which sounds strange and tastes wonderful.

My verdict: the best pizza on the coast north of Beirut. 4.5 out of 5.
